(I wasn't sure which section to put this!)
It seemed to take Jack the full first year before he began to talk. I was getting anxious, since I'm a Speech Pathologist, and it would have been embarrasing if I had a parrot I couldn't teach to talk! LOL!
But he's in full swing - I've lost count now, but so far he has over 30 words & phrases. If you'd allow me to brag on him, here's some of his repetoire ---
"Call the birdie (then whistles)"
"Call the kitty - meow"
"Call the kitty - Hereeee, Kitty, Kitty"
"Call the rooster - (then crows)"
"Call the chicken - (then clucks)"
"Call the duck -(then quacks)"
Howls like a coyote
Barks like a dog
sneezes "Ahhhhh-Choo!"
burps, then says "Scuzi" [husband taught him that one]
"I'm Jack. What's your name?"
"I'm a good boy!"
"Hot!"
"Uh Oh!"
"Hi Mama" and "Hi Charlie"
"I love you"
"Where ya' goin'?"
sings: "Old McDonald" (then I sing "had a farm")
then he sings "ee-i-ee-i-o"
Laughs
He definitely doesn't like the sound of some things I try to teach him- refuses to pick up! Like donkey sound, or turkey gobble. That's his right! And of course he'll pick up things I don't directly try to teach him, like "Stop it!" He said this one time when I tried putting him on the back of a friend's female Eclectus (I know, bad mama.
He's a joy. I never would have guessed I was a such a bird lover 'til I got this little guy!
Love this forum too! Hope to dialogue with some of you. I'm pretty new, and haven't heard from anyone yet, but hope to. I'm from USA (state of West Virginia), I see many of you all are located in Australia - much closer to Ekkie's stomping grounds!
